Thought of the Moment: “Of all my childhood indoctrinations, the ‘Obligation to Respect my Elders’ was the hardest to shake.”
In comparison, reasoning out the logical impossibility of a score-keeping Christian God’s existence was child’s play. I was done with that particular myth by the time I was twelve. However, the inbuilt need to respect my elders stayed with me for much longer, well into my mid-twenties. Not until then did I realize that age does not automatically buy respect, and that it most assuredly doesn’t necessarily confer wisdom.
I guess some forms of brainwashing are just harder to beat than others…
* Yeah, OK… enough of that one. We all know what Catholicism does to boys under seven. That’s not the point here.
